Todd Hynes, the owner and operator of The Gnarly Gar, has over 20 years experience in the restaurant business. After attending the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts in Cambridge, MA, Todd migrated to the state of Texas, where he eventually met his wife, Anna. In 1995, he became owner of District Bar and Grill then worked as a bar manager / consultant for Malaga Wine and Tapas Bar. In 2002 he moved to Lakeway and worked as General Manager for Ciola’s Italian-American Restaurant and created and became co-owner of Aunt Tilly’s Island Cafe and Bar in 2004. In 2006 Todd met Mike Walsh, former owner of The Pier on Lake Austin and together they opened The Pier on Lake Travis, a floating restaurant, bar, ship store, and fuel dock formerly known as Shades Cafe in Point Venture, Texas. In the fall of 2010, Mike and his wife, Jan, decided to retire and Todd and his family took over the complete operation. They felt this would be a great time to make some changes beginning with changing the name of the restaurant to The Gnarly Gar.
The Gnarly Gar’s focus is to provide everyone, young and old, with a fun, family-friendly, great experience. We offer a wide variety of live music shows on weekends, great service, large-screen televisions, a fun happy hour, and a great menu which includes more homemade items such as sauces, dressings, salsa and specials… amazing specials!
